NBA Jam (Quick Review)
Well here it is, a game should be followed by a lot of fanfare. Nope, wrong answer...
Not sure what happened in the translation but this title falls short of its mark.
Unfortunately this game seems to have been overlooked completely. Playing this will quickly show you why.
I personally love the old school titles being remade as I am an old school gamer myself. However this title
seems to lend itself better as an XBOX Live arcade title than a stand alone disc.
NBA Jam is just how you will remember it from the Sega Genesis days and not much is different. In fact the
graphics do not appear to be all that much improved upon. That could have been intentional.
You have your standard fare with 2 on 2 b-ball action, fire mode, glass breaking backboard and all.
The controls seem improved upon, however I think the controls worked better on the genesis. Just because you
have more buttons available does not always mean they should be used. This makes an incredibly simple and easy
to pick up game one that needs to have a tutorial mode. Their incentive is to give you achievement points
if you complete the tutorial. That to me is not a good sign when the developer goes out of their way to force
you to complete a tutorial on a game that should not need one.
I love EA like no other game company but this does not appear to be their best work. For the B-Ball fan out
there wanting to play an arcade B-Ball title with their favorite Baller arcade style. Then you will surely
enjoy this title in short bursts.
The audio needed a lot of improving,,,, Big Time.
"Boom Shaka Laka" gets real old after the 4th time hearing it. Would like to have heard a bit more variety in
the voice work. Makes it clear where money was not spent.
This game is a rent, not a buy.
